ASW10 Night 1 – The Quiet Before the Storm

Last night was a nice way to start the trip.  I didn’t do anything too wild and crazy.  After picking up my badge and goodie bag from the registration booth I came back up to my room to catch a quick nap before meeting with Andrew Wee for a group dinner.  I ended up oversleeping and missed the boat on that one.  (Sorry Andrew!)

After waking up and realizing what happened I ordered up some room service and enjoyed a great burger in my room while chillaxin’ for a bit longer before I headed over to the Palms Casino to meet up with my boy, Arthur Lee from Ads 4 Dough.  We hung out over there for the duration of the night.  I got to meet a few other reps from A4D and had some good conversations ranging in topics from affiliate marketing to boxing to, believe it or not, the economic struggles of Jamaica.  Around 2:00 am I decided to head back to the Rio.

Before heading up to the room I decided to check out the charity poker tournament.  I managed to catch Logan Thompson place 5th in the tournament.  (Congrats Logan!)  While watching the rest of the tournament DK, owner of purpose inc. and sponsor of the poker tourney, introduced himself to me…friendly guy, to say the least.  I also met the co-founder of a new service called Spotcher, Simon Gornick.  Spotcher is a video overlay service that allows you to embed clickable links to your self-hosted videos.  It just launched yesterday and it seems like it could be something extremely useful to affiliate marketers utilizing the power of online video.  I definitely plan on trying it out soon.

That pretty much sums up my first night in Las Vegas for Affiliate Summit West 2010.  Perhaps not an exiting evening by the typical #wfasw crowd standards, but meaningful and enjoyable for me.

The Meet Market is about to open so I’m going to head down now and meet some people, grab an invite to tonight’s Share-A-Sale party and make the most of it.

Oh! Before I close let me mention a few things for those of you interested in coming to the next Affiliate Summit in Vegas for the first time.

The buffet is huge and has just about every type of food you could want, but the price is a little steep at $25.  If you’re not a big eater it’s cheaper to order room service.  There’s a cafe also located near the convention area that may be worth trying.  I’ll check it out and update the post when I find out.
