I’ve been doing a lot of thinking over the last few weeks about the direction I want to go in with my affiliate marketing efforts. The fast income possibilities of CPA (cost per action) marketing is very appealing. Especially since, technically, I’m currently unemployed and have been living off of whatever income I could generate promoting CPA offers. I kinda fell into CPA marketing when I was unexpectedly laid off in October for the second time in 2009. A guy who started out as someone in the social network of someone in my social network quickly became a good friend and mentor showing me some things I could try out that were working for him. They worked for me too, and in no time I was grossing twice what I earned while doing contract work for NASA. Without his help in getting started these last 5 or 6 months would have been much, much harder for my family and I.
(You know who you are…thanks, buddy.)
Well, since getting laid off in October, my goal was to get enough CPA campaigns going so that I could let them do their thing for a few weeks at a time while I focused on starting some CPS (cost per sale) based sites. After all, that’s what he had been doing full time. The CPA strategy he shared with me was something he was toying around with to make a few extra bucks. CPS was where his main focus was, and still is to this day.
To me, the bottom line is this – I can blow all my remaining funds in a week or two…maybe even stretch it out to 4 or 5 weeks, and not make any money back. That’s just how it goes in the CPA game.
OR
I can take the remaining funds and put them to work in a more long term strategy – CPS!
So I am officially saying goodbye CPA and hello CPS! This isn’t a forever goodbye…more like a goodbye for now. The speed and earning potential available in CPA marketing is too tempting to just walk away from. However, realistically speaking I am not in a financial position that would allow me to fund campaigns that do nothing but lose money while I test and optimize them. Once I start generating some stable CPS income, then it’s game on!
Stay tuned…
